Rebuild your post-COVID professional style with a Capsule Wardrobe by Marina Ramalho

The days of sport shorts and Zoom-ready blouses are numbered. As you dust off your pre-pandemic professional ware, you might come to the startling realization that you’re not quite the same person you were in 2019.  Your style, and yes, your body, might not be exactly as it was the last time you left your office.

As we re-emerge into the world, why not take this unique opportunity to revisit your entire approach to getting dressed? Learn how a capsule wardrobe can save you time and money, while still looking great, and contributing to a more sustainable world.

What’s a capsule wardrobe? The term, which has been around since the 1940’s, refers to the intentional collection of clothing that is composed of interchangeable items only, to maximize the number of outfits that can be created. Capsule wardrobes focus on flexibility and quality over quantity – perfect for living in a place like Singapore, where space is limited.  But getting to a capsule wardrobe can be a challenging and a sometimes surprisingly emotional journey.

In this session we’ll discuss the benefits of a capsule wardrobe and how you can get started in developing one. We’ll also cover some of the most common stumbling blocks and how you can overcome them.  Join us as we discover the joy of less!

About the speaker: Marina Ramalho

Marina Ramalho’s interest in conscious consumerism began while serving as a nanny in homes across Europe and North America. Her intimate view into family relations revealed the powerful, and often negative, role that excessive “stuff” can play in the home. Whether it’s battles over messy rooms or massive credit card statements, the accumulation of more and more seemed to lead to less and less happiness.

It wasn’t until reading Japanese author Marie Kondo’s best-selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up that Marina realized the solution to this problem. The book details a system known as the KonMari Method which provides a step-by-step process to liberate yourself from accumulation.

In August 2016 in New York City, Marina joined the first-ever cohort of non-Japanese trainees in the KonMari Method. After months of training and apprenticeship, Marina became the 2nd certified KonMari Consultant outside of Japan. While she decided to step away from the KonMari organization in 2018, she retains the method’s inspiration and wisdom.

Through her business, Joy of Less Marina works with clients and companies around the world to implement strategies to organize, simplify and streamline. Marina has been featured in media including Chatelaine, Reader’s Digest, QZ, Radio France and CBC Radio.
